International Festival of Women's Creativity No Women No Art

No Women No Art is an association, initiative and a festival dedicated to one idea: „There is no art without women”. Since 4 years we've been constantly showing how diverse and  valuable women's art is. We present it in its various forms: on the screen with Pola Negri and Ewelina Guzik; in galleries with Natalia LL and Małgorzata Gurowska; on scene with  Maria Peszek and Rebeka; in cinema with  Agnès Varda and Sally Potter; in theatre with Chór Kobiet and Extra Virgin; on the catwalk with Aga Guz and Patka Smirnow. The artists of  No Women No Art are important, unique, bold and smart. Some serious, some funny, sometimes  angry, sometimes sweet, one day classical, the other day avant-garde. Always – simply good at what they do.

This is the International Festival of Women's Creativity No Women No Art, which 4th edition will take place in Poznań from 17th till 22nd November. „The streets belong to us!” - with this motto we will take over Poznań's city center with discussions about the place of art and women in public space.  Agata Olek will fly from New York to change the city as we know it with a crochet-hook. We will plant trees and swarm the streets with  the pram critical mass. We will transform Poznań with artistic installations and performances – together we will play a game with the urban space. Additionally in befriended festival locations  we'll have a chance to listen to Asia i Koty concert, watch “Three histories” by the Russian director Kira Muratova and for the first time in Poznań participate in Hand Stitches (Ściegi Ręczne) – a fair for good design. We also prepared No Women No Art for Kids,  specifically dedicated to presenting wise art created by women (but not excursively) for children.

This November we will experience six days filled to the brim with cultural events, the full plan of the which will be available in Autumn.

Soon we will start our search for others willing to knit and crochet the city together.

Feel invited!

No Women No Art is an all-year- round initiative promoting women in art and culture. The association has been created because of the need for making women’s values and achievements loud and the need for reminding the masterpieces of women’s of the previous decades. Its activity helps breaking unfavorable stereotypes which suggest labeling women’s work as banal or sentimental.

No Women No Art promotes  women’s art via organising artistic events self-handedly: concerts, performances, film screenings and exhibitions. Moreover, there are different valuable cultural events, presenting women’s achievements, under  its patronage.

International Women’s Festival No Women No Art which will be organized in Poznan in November 2010 for the third time, will crown the all-year-round activity.

Within the festival events we present debuting  women artists as well as accredited ones; artists who create within the official culture and those who create off the main stream.  The program of the festival includes different projects and allows to celebrate  women’s art in its various forms. We go beyond the classical canon of art – we are not afraid of borderline projects, we promote new phenomena and trends appearing in culture.

We prove that women create import ant, beautiful, inspiring, unique and good pieces of art.

We prove that there is no art without women!

No Women No Art for aims at:
- promoting women’s work
- supporting debutant women artists
- presenting achievements of accredited women artists
- creating an opportunity to meet interesting women artists from Poland and abroad
- presenting abundance and diversity of work created by women
- creating an opportunity of perceiving XX century culture through women’s taking part in its creation
- trial of regaining the memory of living and reating in Poznan (tracing them through the city streets)
- promoting new fields of art (graffiti, cartoons) and presenting women’s achievements within these field

Agata Kołacz
Spokeswoman
By a fortunate coincidence, she was born in the city where she wants to live and act. That’s why there isn’t a day she would get up lacking a smile on her face. During the day she simultaneously speaks and listens, either speaking in media about co-organized events such as KontenerArt and No Women No Art Festival, or about those in organization of which she hasn’t been involved, presenting them as a journalist in Qulturalny Poznan. Always on the move. Her distinguishing features are cracking high heels, Her attributes: a fan in summer and a muff in winter.

Studentka filologii polskiej na poznańskim uniwersytecie. Feministka. Kocha literaturę, zwłaszcza od jej teoretycznej strony. Bez muzyki nie wyobraża sobie życia, dlatego nałogowo kupuje płyty i jeździ na koncerty. Uwielbia kino, zwłaszcza to spod znaku Wood’ego Allena. Najbardziej jednak zajmuje ją kwestia „uwikłania w płeć”.

Barbara Terka
Specjalistka ds. logistyki
